St Peter's Church Choir

St Peter's has a fine, active church choir, numbering around 25 members. It plays a central part in worship, leading the singing of the congregation and contributing week by week from its own wide and expanding repertoire of choral works from the renaissance period to the present day.

We believe that everyone who is interested in singing in the choir should have the opportunity to do so - adults, young people or children - no matter what level of experience they may have, and there are no auditions. However, the choir does strive for high standards, and professional training is provided in regular rehearsals to enable the choir to maintain those standards, and individuals within it to grow in confidence and ability. Two choral scholarships are offered each year for young people aged 16-18.

Rehearsals are held on Friday evenings and before the 10.30am Eucharist on Sunday mornings, which is the main service at which the choir sings. Other sung services include an Advent Carol Service, the Nine Lessons and Carols for Christmas, Christmas Midnight Mass and occasional funerals and weddings. During 2017 it is also planned to introduce a monthly Choral Evensong.
